BREAKING FORM: An Imagined Utopia

I was asked by a friend to make a list of my favorite albums that were released in 2013. I wanted to take this task to another place though, so I produced a series of “record reviews” in drawing form. In so many ways I feel like music journalism is failing us. Numerical grading systems and name dropping are debasing the art of analysis. I feel like Lester Bangs hit close to the mark when he wrote about the story surrounding artist and their music. I am not talking about idol worship, but some insight into the artist could make evaluation a richer experience. Instead of trying to be the first website to drop the verdict, I wish journalists would spend more time with the music and leave the quick references behind.
